California 4th District Constituents Meet Congressional Candidate Mike Thompson

On July 18, residents of Placer County had the opportunity to meet congressional candidate, Mike Thompson, at his “Ask Me Anything” discussion. Endorsed by the California Democratic Party, Thompson has served in Congress since 1999.
When asked what he considered his most important accomplishments, Thompson highlighted his gun violence prevention bill, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, noting it as the first gun safety legislation to pass in a generation. He also led the push for the Telehealth Expansion for Medicare, which extended critical telehealth services for Medicare patients beyond the pandemic and ensured seniors continued access to care from home.
Throughout the event, Thompson responded to audience questions on a wide array of topics. As the ranking member of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Tax, he spoke about leading the design of the American Affordability Act, a comprehensive bill aimed at lowering the cost of living for American families.
He also supports stronger oversight of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), stating that the agency has been running a "rogue operation." While he has called for critical reforms—such as requiring warrants and body cameras for agents—he noted that efforts have stalled, "We are hitting a brick wall."
On the topic of ending the war in Iran, he voted for a war powers resolution aimed at limiting presidential military authority. He criticized the conflict, stating that Americans are gaining nothing from the unprovoked war and citing its direct role in driving up prices.
