Democratic Showcase Fills Leadership Void as Rep. Kiley Abandons CA-03 Following Prop 50

PLACER COUNTY, CA — On Monday evening, February 9, 2026, over 250 residents from across California’s 3rd Congressional District gathered virtually for a "Meet the Candidates" showcase, a forum designed to introduce voters to the leaders vying for one of California's most watched seats following the recent political upheaval in the region.

The showcase provided voters with an uninterrupted look at the platforms of Ami Bera, Chris Bennett, and Heidi Hall. While the featured candidates focused on the future of CA-03, the seat’s current incumbent, Rep. Kevin Kiley, recently announced he will not seek re-election in the district following the passage of Proposition 50 and the subsequent redrawing of district lines.

The non-debate format allowed each candidate roughly 25  minutes of uninterrupted time to present their platforms, focusing on the unique challenges facing the newly redistricted CA-03, which covers much of the Sierras and suburban Sacramento. The session also allowed each candidate time to answer questions on healthcare access, economic stability, and environmental protection. For many attendees, the event served as an essential introduction to a new era of representation.

The evening featured three prominent Democratic voices in the race:

  • Ami Bera: Physician and current U.S. Representative (CA-06)

  • Chris Bennett: U.S. Army Veteran

  • Heidi Hall: Nevada County Supervisor and environmental advocate

"With redistricting shifting the boundaries of CD-03, it is more important than ever for voters to know exactly who is asking for their vote," said Daniel Medina, Communications Chair of the Placer County Democratic Central Committee. "This showcase wasn’t about political theater; it was about giving our community the clarity they need to make an informed choice at the ballot box."

For those who were unable to attend, a video recording of the event is located on the Placer County Democratic Party’s Youtube page at https://www.youtube.com/@PlacerDems or see video below.
